Obstructed view

My TV with its small and partially obstructed view of television space seems vaguely appropriate in this world where I now place myself and which places me. I can't see the whole picture when I turn on the TV. What I can see of that already highly restricted space is growing ever smaller. It's blotting itself out.

I won't go much farther with that for now, but it is worth noting how much visual information is included in the top third of a TV image. I can still understand any of the simple stories told on that tube, but I miss expressions. I see a mouth, but not the eyes and eybrows. The camera operator on almost any show gives more weight to the top third of the image. That's what makes center spot meters for focus and light on amateur cameras less than adequate for most scenes. We don't look at the center as the primary spot of focus. We look up and to one side or another.
